What lies behind you, and what lies in front of you,
pales in comparison to what lies inside you.

50 years
50 years

Today we celebrated my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. They actually married on Groundhog Day (February 2), but because that’s the middle of winter we moved the celebration. Smart! Our only appreciable snow this year was on, you guessed it, February 2! Still, the groundhog featured heavily in today’s festivities (and yes, it was red velvet a la Steele Magnolias). Mom and dad got to do all the things they didn’t get to do 50 years ago: they had a cake, shared a toast, friends and family were all there to cheer them on, and to top it off, they were given a police escort through town, cans tied to the bumper, car horns blaring, and all! Never in my life have I seen my dad smile as much as he did today. Mother adored the attention. A great time was had by all. I couldn’t be more proud.
