“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” ~ John Milton

I call him….Spicoli (snapseed)

I love this piece. It’s an original Robert Shinn assemblage. Robert makes some of the most creative works I’ve ever seen. He’s lived all over the country, but he currently lives in Moodys, Oklahoma. He posted a picture of this piece on facebook. It was love at first sight. I bought it, and straight up on the wall it went as soon as it got here. The piece probably has a title (naturally, I don’t remember it), but it reminds me so much of Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High that I look at it, giggle, and call it Spicoli. You can see more of Robert’s work here and here. He’s also gracing the cover of Solidago’s Spring edition with a beautiful piece called Fractured Frida. Have I mentioned that Robert is über awesome? He’s awesome to say the least. Baby doll hands, a guitar neck, and a paintbrush on an old skateboard. I’m in love, and it feels good.

l don’t think he had a fixed name
…often the name is the last to arrive
    Spicoli is perfection…

    a little history:
he grew up and earned his scars on the mean streets of New Orleans and for a year did what skateboards do in San Antonio…all under the feet of Lakota friend Ceta…Ceta provided some relatives babysitting duties in Kansas and earned a new shiny board, which he brought to Teresita for assembly…Spicoli to be, was tossed like an old shoe and l saw that some assembly was required…and then love happened in Lexington…
