“There are some things [I] know for certain: Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.” ~ Alice Hoffman

John and Yoko

Radical Departure bandmates David Hurst and Melissa Snow-Groves recreated John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 Bed-In For Peace at the Downtown Arts Center this evening. This was a very clever promotion cooked up by the gifted Anita Courtney for next Friday’s John Lennon Tribute that we, the Radical Departures, had the great pleasure of recording in early October. I gotta tell ya, this was so much fun to photograph. Not quite as much fun as playing the Lennon tunes with these two and our faithful forth wheel, Chris Mears, but pretty dang fun.

I’ve had lots of people ask for details about next Friday’s Lennon show. It’s the John Lennon Tribute, Friday November 6 at 7:30pm. It will run about 75 minutes. Click on this link which will take you to the page that will direct you to the show on facebook. You do not need a facebook account to enjoy the show. You can watch on your laptop, desktop, phone, or stream it through your widescreen TV. Here are directions for that. The show is free, but it is a fundraiser for several Central Kentucky mission partners, so “give until you feel comfortable,” and if that’s zero, that’s okay. Just enjoy the music. After the initial show next Friday, the performance will be made available for viewing on the same launch page in the link above. Here’s the FAQ page if I’ve forgotten anything.

I’ve been given to understand the performances recorded for the Lennon Tribute are outstanding, so I think we’re all in for a real treat. It’s really kind of weird to do this show without seeing or talking to the other performers. Plus, I usually photograph the entire show, so this double weird for me. But shooting the bed-in totally makes up for the latter. I hope you will be able to tune in next Friday to watch with David, Melissa, and I, and I hope we pass the audition.
