the year art came home

posted in: Uncategorized | 9

I’ve played music for as long as I can remember. I always dabbled in art, too. In high school I was bitten by the photography bug. When I decided to stop touring as a musician and return to college to study art, I hadn’t expected to fall back into photography. But that’s just what I did (evidenced by the self portrait above, circa 1993). Now, nearly 15 years after that BA and a non-art masters degree in hell later, I’ve come home to what matters: art.

Here in The Outhouse, urged by my friend Mary Carroll-Hackett along with trusted advisors Deb Chenault, Larry Evans, Stacy Yelton, Mindy Cardenas, Angie Bliss, Lisa Banyai, Beverly Howell, Sandy Davis, and Dan Kibler, I’m going to keep a record of my endeavors to bring back into my life the muses that have been hiding quietly, waiting for me to get whatever out of my system.

Starting January 1, 2012, I’ll be posting one photograph each day – and it’s leap year, bonus! In a year’s time, provided the Mayan’s are wrong, there will be 366 photographs to reflect on. I’ll also share other sharable art stuff when they come up – drawings, music, writing, moving pictures, radio stuff, and whatever else happens to come to the surface.

So, come along for the ride. No doubt there will be a lot of crap along the way but, who knows – maybe I’ll find my voice again. Lord help us all if I do! 🙂

    I look forward to this.
You line, …”to bring back into my life the muses that have been hiding quietly, waiting for me to get whatever out of my system…” really speaks to me. I feel the same. Thanks for taking the leap and sharing.

It seems like this is true fo SO many creatives. We get sucked into day-jobs, buying into the whole “American dream”, such that it is, and the result is a deadening of the soul. It’s hard, hard, hard work to maintain a job AND stay true to your journey, at least it has been for me. I’ve let too many things steer me off course. I’m just looking for my way back to the right road, ya know?

Sometimes I’ve felt that my job sucked the creativity juices out of me. Don’t let that happen to you. You’ve got so much to offer and so much to share.
