“I just think goodness is more interesting. Evil is constant. You can think of different ways to murder people, but you can do that at age five. But you have to be an adult to consciously, deliberately be good – and that’s complicated.” ~ Toni Morrison

hot summer night

Days upon days of high heat make people cranky. This week has been a very interesting lesson in human behavior, and excessive heat is at the top of that lesson. Those who weren’t cranky were exhausted. I don’t know how many people I’ve talked to this week who have had trouble sleeping, including me. Nevertheless, I’ve started this semester’s classes, and I’m thrilled. I’ve added a newly minted Appalachian Studies Certificate to the plate, so my electives for the historic preservation degree are drawn from that well. Even after the first night, I knew I’d made the right decision. They will give me the answers I need to complete my thesis in May. Now, I’d be even more grateful if somebody would just turn down the outdoor oven. Shew, law.
