“At some point you gotta be real with yourself about the gap between the life you want to live and the life your daily habits are leading you towards.” ~ Michell C. Clark

The old Lenox Post Office is still standing. Recall a few weeks back when Shero and I visited with her old friend Jimmy Adkins and his wife, Bina Sue. Bina Sue’s mother was postmistress of the Lenox Post Office and lived in the house directly beside it, where Jimmy and Bina Sue now live. That house has evolved with the times, but the post office still carries the old flavor, with its asphalt asbestos siding and western false front, giving it an air of dignity for a small, rural building. Undoubtedly, the porch hosted many a congregating neighbor over the years, swapping stories, recipes, fish tales, and whatnot. I’m partial to the wood plank floor’s no-gutter porch roof and cinder-block footing. So many of West Liberty’s original buildings followed this same building code, and some still existed when I was a child. There aren’t many anymore, which makes the Lenox Post Office all the more special.
