“Life is not a dress rehearsal. Stop practicing what you’re going to do and just go do it.
In one bold stroke you can transform today.” ~ Marilyn Grey

I’d like you to meet a new friend. This is Perla Olivia Rodriguez Resendíz. She’s a sound archivist at the University of Mexico. She is especially interested in preserving the recordings of Mexico’s indigenous populations (samples during her presentation were fantastic). Perla was one of the first to submit a proposal to the committee. I got at least one email from her each week leading up to the conference. I didn’t know what to expect when we would finally meet. I was being blessed all along and didn’t realize it. Perla was the first person in the door and gave me a hug like we were old friends. Do you ever meet people surrounded in light? (this might be a Kopana thing, I don’t know) Perla is one of those people. The shine in her eyes could light up a room; goodness pours out of her smile. I loved her instantly. She didn’t get to take the field trip with us sadly, so on her final day she presented me with what she called a small token of gratitude; this beautiful bag. If I was a crying person I would have cried at such a gift. She thought it was something small, but to me, it could have been made of gold and I couldn’t love it more. She invited me to Mexico, and I hope to take her up on it. I’ll need to brush up on my Spanish so we can have long talks like friends do. Perla is amazing and I am proud to call her friend.
