“Resentments and grudges are two of the main culprits that perpetuate cycles of self-abuse and victimhood. Stowed away inside you like parasites, they deplete you of your God-given life force and separate you from your inherent worth, your joy, and the love in your heart.”
~ Debbie Ford

After seven years the day finally arrived. When my paternal grandparents died in 2009, I bought four fruit trees, one for each grandparent. The grandfather peaches don’t do well, the squirrels see to that. The little varmints were taking a toll on the few grandmother apples that went from bloom to fruit. The little devils wouldn’t allow the fruit to mature. That is, until today. With Wally finally with a fenced yard, the squirrels’ reign has come to an end. My crabapple tree has many mature fruits, and in the evening sun I plucked one from a limb. I took a bite. I was flooded with memories of eating little green apples until I had a belly ache. Summer in Eastern Kentucky at its finest. I stood in my yard tonight and ate three tiny apples, each more delicious than the last. Even Wally had a bite and liked it. Mamaw made the best crabapple jelly I’ve ever eaten. Next season I’ll give it a try. Life is good.
