This is my friend Brent Carter. We’ve worked together in the trenches for years. He came to town for last week’s IFLA pre-conference. He’s one of those alien people that looks younger every year. I asked for his secret. He said Utah water. Brent and I had a great conversation about mentors (it seemed to be the theme last week). I actually met Brent through his mentor Scott Christensen who, way back in 2005, helped us with our in-house digitization production. We no longer live in an age where apprenticeship is the norm, so we must rely on mentors to craft our skills, and build character. Scott couldn’t have picked a better man than Brent to mentor and follow in his footsteps. He’s a stand up guy with such a deep, gentle soul. I’m blessed to call him friend.
