“Give every day a chance to become the most beautiful day of your life.” ~ Unknown
Back in the spring of 2015, I first drove through the Powell Valley and Benge’s Gap in Virginia. Today, Stacy and I drove home from Asheville by way of Powell Valley. It was humid and hot, but the leaves were full, the sky blue. It was as beautiful as I remember. My ancestors more than 150 years ago (some even 200 years ago) came from the North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia areas that we’ve been through the last three days. It’s always humbling to see this land so deeply embedded in my DNA. Doesn’t matter how far I roam around the earth, the mountains of Southern Appalachia will always be home.
