While mom convalesced in ICU with a serious case of stomach flu, I took dad to dinner. Tonight was extra special because it’s also veterans day. Both of my parents are U.S. Army veterans, and they both remain quite involved with the D.A.V. Dad was Special Forces which included lots of paratrooping and reconnoissance missions around the world. Mom read maps for White Sands Missile Defense. Our waiter made dad’s day, and mine, when he asked if dad was a vet, and then thanked him profusely for his service. It was touching. I’m so proud of my parents. Thank a vet if you know one, or be like our waiter and thank them even if you don’t know them. Somebody has to hold the fort for us. Saying ‘thank you’ seems the least we civilians can do.
