The West Liberty Mountain Boys came to Lexington and played the Southland Jamboree tonight. Always a lover of music, especially supporting hometown players, Shero was determined to be front and center. We grabbed Aunt Barbara, and off we went. The three young men below: Jonathan Keeton, Matthew Bailey, and Byron Holbrook, are from Morgan County and have been playing music together since they were in high school over ten years ago. For those with a scorecard, I went to school with Matt’s dad, Jeff, and Shero went to church with Jonathan and his mom, and was in DAV with his dad. I might have gone to school with Byron’s dad, Keith, but I’d need a yearbook to be sure (it’s been over 40 years at this point).
Morgan County Boys
It was a beautiful night for music. A front came through overnight and ushered out the oppressive humidity and heat and made the evening the best we’ve had in a month or longer. The Moondance Amphitheater in Beaumont Circle hosts the Southland Jamboree every Thursday during summer, and this was my first time in attendance. Shame on me. It’s a fabulous community event that’s been going on for 19 years, and I need to go much more often. Shero and Barb had a great time, too, so I’m pretty sure I can get them to go with me. Oh, yea, now that you ask, that is a girl on fiddle. Maddie something from Clay City. She was good. And let’s face it, you can’t have a Bluegrass band with a fiddle, and if you can’t find a dude, you make do. I’m proud of all these young players. They’re funny and good with a crowd, and they played their little hearts out.
