“They say no one is coming to save you, but many people have saved me, even if they didn’t intend to. It can be as small as a smile from a stranger, a nudge from an animal, words from a writer, the lyrics to a song, an observant friend. We are all saving each other every single day in tiny seemingly insignificant ways.” ~ Unknown

Hero would be 86 today. Mom had a small procedure this morning, and while she was still numb (hours later), we decided to have his  – and our – favorite meal to celebrate him. Did I ever tell ya’ll about the time, when we were living in Tucson, a producer found Dad (I don’t know where or how) and begged him to be in whatever western he was producing at Old Tucson? Old Tucson is the movie studio just outside town where many westerns have been filmed. Mom might remember the exact film. It could have been Hawmps, The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Frisco Kid, or The Villian, all filmed between 1976 and 1979. The Wikipedia entry for Old Tucson lists a lot more than that, plus a ton of television episodes between 1975 and 1979, the years we lived there. He thought it was hokey and wanted no part of it. Me and Shero thought it was cool. He stuck with hokey, and the world did not get to see him as a cowboy. He would have looked incredible on screen. I mean, look at him! He was a damn good-looking cowboy. Plus, he was photogenic as could be (his dad was, too). I’ve never seen a bad photo of him, and trust me, I have thousands to choose from.
