This might be one of my all-time favorite photos. It was decoration day for us, and on the way to Morgan County, mom asked if we could stop to see her friend Mary Vance. You first met Mary back in 2016. She and mom both became widows in less than two years, in 2021 and 2022, respectively. They had a lot of catching up to do. We agreed we’d stop for just a few minutes. An hour later, we finally left. I took a great adventure around the yard, along the creek, and down Jones Creek Road, where I honed my driving skills while the friends caught up. Mary’s house, though somewhat different from when I was growing up next door, is still intact enough that it transports me back to childhood and fills me with nothing but wonderful memories. There will be much more about my traipsing around outside and decorating, but for both me and mom, we agreed that spending time with Mary was the highlight of our day. We both love her so much.
