“Someone being patient with you on your bad days is the softest form of love.” ~ Unknown
The photo above may be the last photo I have of Tucker Lykins (left). You met Tucker back in 2016 not long after he’d married. This photo of the last three siblings, Tucker, Robin, and Mike, was taken at their brother Kenny’s funeral in 2019. Their other brother, Billy, died in 2007 in his early 40s of cancer, and we all thought that was tragic, because it was, but nobody expected to lose all three brothers before they ever reached 60 years old. Both Kenny and Tucker died suddenly of heart attacks. Robin, the oldest of the five, will tell you just how strange it feels to lose them, and I’m sure Mike feels adrift, too, but they both have great faith and take joy in the living.
I’ll say this: the Dalton/Lykins men were all really good men. Our families have been close for two generations, and I know them all well. I went to school with Billy, Kenny, and Tucker, and graduated with Tucker in 1983. These are Kenny’s two sons, Ben and Adam, with Robin, Mike, and Mike’s wife, Kay. They’re good boys, too, and young fathers. Kenny would be so proud of them. He didn’t get to meet his grandchildren, nor did their grandmother Ginger, who died just six months after Kenny. Tucker didn’t have any biological children, and Billy had two girls who have children now, too. So much tragedy in one family, but so much love and faithfulness remain. Hug your people, ya’ll. You just never know.
