I helped HRB mark off a bucket list item this evening, and it was a gift to me for graduation (the gift that keeps on giving). We drove down to EKU to see Lyle Lovett and His Large Band. Crystal had never seen him perform live before, but she had become familiar with his work in photography (in addition to his music) through a mutual friend. I saw Lyle and his even larger band way back in 1999, and he was fantastic. Back then, he had a cellist who played an unbelievable solo. Tonight, the spotlight went to the alto sax and pianist, both equally gifted. We agreed, though, that Lyle’s sense of humor may have stolen the show, such that we would have been perfectly content if all he’d done was talk. Also, Crystal was definitely the youngest person in the room – including the band. Except for the poor man whose knee went out walking back from the bathroom for the second time, a good time was had by all.
