golden hour

I took a color photography class in college. We learned about color film and how to print from it. One of the first images I printed was a white building. I bet I wasted thirty pieces of paper trying to make that building white. The thing is, white is only white when white things surround it. In truth, white becomes a reflector of the colors around it, and that means, in a photograph (and in reality), white really has the tint of the strongest color nearby, like grass and golden hour sunlight. This is the Shaker Meeting House bathed in green and gold.
