“There’s a stranger out there who still thinks about you because you were kind to them when they really needed it. Never stop being that person.” ~ Unknown
Even beyond the veil, Gurney keeps bringing people together, making love the only thing that matters. I had the opportunity to meet Gurney’s sister, Gwynn, and his nieces. I saw and talked to so many people I know and love, and got to photograph them. Tracy Hawkins is a man I love with all my heart. Gurney was his brother-in-law, and today at his memorial, Tracy and I had a brief moment to catch up. It’s been a tough year for him and his family, and I’ve been thinking about him a lot over the last few weeks. It did my heart good to hug his neck, tell him I love him, and apologize for being off my rocker sometimes (long story from a few years ago). He hugged me back as he said we all get loopy sometimes. My heart grew a thousand sizes. There was beautiful live music from some of Kentucky’s finest; the room was filled with literary royalty. It was an amazing day, and I am so very grateful to have been there for it.
