“But darling, we weren’t given this wild soul just to merely exist. Our mission is to shake up the world, turn it upside down, and show our fellow human the difference between breathing and being fully alive.” ~ Unknown

Poor Scrappy is having another bout of pancreatitis, so no one in the house got any sleep last night. I caught a few winks in the recliner while Nurse Lord Basil watched over Scrappy in the yard for hours as he struggled with non-stop gastric issues. It was a helpless feeling, and I am grateful to Lord Basil for his care. Seriously, that little dog nearly worried himself to death watching over Scrappy and looking at me to do something. I tried giving Scrappy some pumpkin at supper, and if a dog could flip the bird, that’s what he would have done to me about that idea. Note to self: don’t try to fix the dog with pumpkin again. Needless to say, I dropped him off with Aunt Millie first thing this morning and went on to work. It was an effort to get through the day, but it was made so much better by my afternoon filled with smart colleagues, first at a Monuments Project gathering where brilliant scholars told us about their work, and then with my colleagues at the Appalachian Water Humanities Cooperative. By the time I picked up Scrappy, he was feeling better, but we both came home, snuggled up to Lord Basil, and fell fast asleep. Obviously, I woke up, but only long enough to post about another grateful day despite the tiny setback.
