“If you can overthink the worst, why can’t you overthink the best?” ~ Unknown
Look at this gorgeous yellow iris that bloomed on Mother’s Day. This is one of Robin’s yellow irises that she gave me back in the fall. I planted most of them in the Robin Dalton Memorial Garden, but I put a few near Wally’s grave to give Crystal’s Forget-Me-Not a little company. And now, look. When I let the dogs out this morning, nearly all of Robin’s rhizomes had blooms. Friday, there were only three. I’ve had many friends and family reach out to me today, the first Mother’s Day without Shero. When Robin gave me the irises, she didn’t know yellow was Shero’s favorite color, and I didn’t know they would nearly all bloom on Mother’s Day. I don’t believe in coincidences, but I do believe in God and the Universe and our ancestors talking to us all the time in ways we sometimes recognize and sometimes don’t. I choose to recognize these beautiful yellow flowers as Shero’s way of saying she had a good Mother’s Day, even if it wasn’t with me. I sure wish she were here, but I’m more grateful for all the Mother’s Days we got to share before she left. I continue to feel like the luckiest woman on Earth.
