“The most beautiful thing you can do today? Make someone feel like they matter. Not with money or fame, but with your heart.” ~ Unknown

After the BGT soirée, Judy and I were sitting at a red light when she asked, “Do you blog so you’ll have something to do, or do you do things so you’ll have something to blog about?” I laughed. Chicken or egg? The blog, as you well know, was only meant to last a year as a way of oiling the ‘ol right brain. We see how that turned out. Anyway, Judy knows that, of course, but she was asking because of the kind of day I, we, were having. See, I bought tickets to see Jason Isbell at EKU way back in the winter, long before I knew the BGT members’ Meeting was scheduled for the same night. Then the interview with WEKU got scheduled, and then I found out I was getting the BGT volunteer of the year award. I couldn’t figure out a way to manage it all, so I tried to sell the Isbell tickets. I got no takers. I was stuck with the tickets. Yesterday morning, I got in touch with Judy, my concert buddy, to see if she wanted to go see Jason. She was game, and because of the significant time crunch, she came to the BGT event with me. So, yeah, we left the BGT a little early to make it to Richmond in time for the show. It was totally worth it, too. It was just Jason and his guitar. I had chills for most of the show. His voice was in perfect form, and instrumentally bare, his storytelling was like a punch in the gut. Chances are, he was a little too depressing for Judy’s taste – in all fairness, he did play all the depressing songs – but his engagement between them was funny and not at all depressing. It was a pretty incredible day that would have happened with or without the outhouse, but not without Judy. Friends are critical, and I’m beyond grateful for every single one – and for kick-ass days they help make.
