“If you are wondering who your people are, they are the ones who make your heart feel seen and your nervous system feel calm. Yes, it’s that simple.” ~ Unknown

African neighbor

It’s a good thing we wrapped up everything that happened on Thursday because today was the day of the Guinea. File this under: Things You Don’t See in the Suburbs. I was sipping my (late) morning coffee when I saw something unusual out the front window. One of the neighbors across the street has chickens, so I thought maybe it was theirs, except they were standing on the street looking with as much surprise as I was. The bird, henceforth known as The Guinea Fowl, came from Hero and Shero’s yard, pecked around my front porch a few times, saw me staring at her through the window, and proceeded on to the next house. That’s where I found her hours later because Buddy was barking wildly at her through the fence. Crystal, Ken, and Adrien came to help me yesterday, and Crystal came back this afternoon to do some touch-up painting. That’s when the neighbor called to tell me about The Guinea Fowl. Much conversation ensued; a bevy of neighbors gathered in front of Hero and Shero’s house, marveling at The Guinea Fowl now perched on the windowsill of another neighbor. Long story short, The Guinea Fowl, clearly unaccustomed to crowds, flew from the sill, across the street, waddled slowly down Pearl’s driveway, and into the backyard with the neighbor’s chickens. I like Guineas. They’re great tick and bug control, and as long as it’s behind a fence, it will provide hours of entertainment for Buddy. It’s a win all around.
