“Run the risk. If it works out, happiness. If not, wisdom.” ~ Unknown

It was a big, emotional day in the outhouse. Hero and Shero’s house finally went on the market. When I saw the photos of it last night with the 360 walkthrough and the enormous list of the improvements we’ve made over the years, I instantly regretted putting it on the market. I relived the look on Shero’s face when she first saw the kitchen. She loved it so, so much. I believe she loved that house better than any place they’d ever lived, and I felt like I was letting go of something she dearly loved and wanted me to keep. Hero called it “The Kraut House.” He meant no offense. It was a compliment because it reminded both him and Shero of the houses they lived in in Germany back in the 1960s. I sensed a full-circle moment for them.  On the other hand, I had to be realistic about it, and I can’t afford to keep both houses. The utilities alone make it cost-prohibitive, especially since Kentucky Utilities decided to raise their prices this summer (ouch!), and I absolutely don’t want to be a landlord, so renting it would only be a last-resort option. Anyway, what’s done is done, so to soothe my hurt, I got lower arena tickets for the Rush concert in Cincinnati. I’ve been following their recent tour because they hired a woman, Anika Nilles, to replace drummer Neil Peart. She is utterly brilliant. She’s not him, and doesn’t try to be, yet she pays homage to him in every song. I can’t think of another player who could have done it with as much class as she has. Plus, everyone I know who’s seen this tour has said it’s one of the best shows they’ve ever seen, and I had a presale code, so there was that. Since Shero loved music, I figured this was the best thing I could do today, and I feel confident that Hero and Shero would be happy about it. All of it.
