JD Carruthers pointed to the tree just outside my office window. There was an enormous, handsome Cooper’s Hawk having a brunch of squirrel du jour. Of all days to leave my camera at home <grumble>. Armed with only my phone, I decided to pay Mr. Hawk a visit. I got directly under his branch. He stared at me intently. I snapped a shot, thanked him kindly, and went back to the office. I have great respect for hawks, and we’re quite fortunate to have several on campus. They just seem to get bigger and bigger year after year. I hope he comes back and says hi.
