Fight depression by any means necessary. Kindness, rest, routines, exercise, simplicity, meditation;
find one pleasure. LOVE SOMETHING.” ~ David DeWitt

The thing I love most about my job is getting to know the people who work tirelessly to collect and preserve Kentucky’s history. Miles Hoskins is one such person. You might remember him from the first year of the outhouse when Reinette Jones and I travelled to Mt. Sterling and the Montgomery County Historical Society to pick up some historic newspapers. We had the occasion to go back today. Not only is Miles one of the most unique people I’ve ever meet, he’s also one of the most passionate historians I’ve ever run across. Even his glasses belonged to his great grandfather. That passion has essentially turned him into a one-man show with the Historical Society, and he has worked hard to build a resource Montgomery Countians can be proud of. He knows a lot about genealogy, particularly in Montgomery County, but he knows his own genealogy pretty well, too. Today, we discovered we share our 3x great-grandfather, William Patrick, Jr. (1794-1880). Laughter ensued. If you’re ever in Mt. Sterling and you happen to meet Miles, tell him I said hello. I guarantee he’ll pat you on the back and talk your leg off. You’ll love every minute of it.
