“See with your heart.” ~ Unknown

into the light

I awoke this morning to my phone dinging; one text after another asking if I was okay. I didn’t understand why everyone was asking. I got myself a cup of hot tea, opened my laptop, and started to understand. Poor Mayfield, Kentucky. The first photos I saw were taken just after the tornado struck in the morning darkness and they looked eerily similar to the devastation suffered in West Liberty almost 10 years ago. That tornado was extremely rare for having touched down – and staying down for more than 70 miles – in mountainous terrain, but the twister that leveled Mayfield this morning was on the ground for over 200 miles. A record since record-keeping began. The death toll is more than 50 and climbing. I lit a candle and said a prayer for those survivors who will move forward without a loved one, for those who have suffered a life-altering injury, for those with survivor’s guilt, for the rescuers, the caregivers, the clean-up crews, the folks providing meals to everyone so they can put their lives and communities back together. It takes a village to put a village back together. Kentucky is the new tornado alley I guess. Honestly, we always have been, but the storms were never quite as intense and long-lasting as they are now. May we be of use to one another in these difficult times and be kind to this planet that is increasingly angry.

Love your article, I know they will have a hard time putting the lives back together but with God’s Love, all things are possible. Praying 🙏.
