Mister Cool

Today was the first faculty meeting of the year (the fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30). These meetings are pretty dry, but we celebrated four colleagues who recently received promotions, so we had the opportunity to visit for a little while. Peter Hesseldenz and I go way back, and he is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. We were working together when his youngest son was born. He’s now college-age. Where has the time gone? We had a wonderful talk this afternoon, and I’m always thankful to reconnect with him. He’s very creative and funny as all get out. Meanwhile, our faculty senator, Jason Keinsley, gave a shout-out to the many Librarian IVs because he started as a Librarian IV. There are nine of us, and as a token of his appreciation, he gave us each an engraved cowbell (see: SNL More Cowbell skit with Christopher Walken) and instructed us to ring them when we reach tenure. Jennifer Hootman was kind enough to take the bottom snap of Adriana Sisko, who is our newest Librarian, and me. Several years ago, she worked as a student in the Nunn Center. From there, she set her goal to be a librarian, and here she is. I couldn’t be more proud if she were my own kid. Old colleagues and new – I love ’em all.
