Shero and Jimmy Adkins go back to childhood and have been good friends their entire lives. They had a singing trio in high school and won a local competition. They won $.50 (probably to split between the three) and a trip to Hazel Green, a whopping 14 miles. I’m not sure of the significance of Hazel Green, maybe another competition, but they were mighty excited to go, whatever the reason. Jimmy even gave a solo career a whirl, but that wasn’t a long-lived venture because he soon realized it wasn’t for him. Nevertheless, the pair honored us with a rendition of How Great Thou Art, and you could still hear how good they must have been as young people. I can’t overemphasize how great yesterday was for me and Shero, and I hope for Jimmy, Bina Sue, and Patsy, too, dueling rollators and all.
