I somehow missed a lot of friends at last night’s Open Studio, but the one man I wanted to see, I got to see. Arturo Sandoval was my advisor for the majority of my undergraduate work. His careful guidance saved me a lot of work (and money), and I became a better artist and thinker through his wisdom. I respect him immensely. Not only is he a great guy and mentor, he’s one of America’s finest fiber artists; a real Kentucky treasure. Stacy Yelton and Arturo also go way back. I mean, they don’t do duck faces for just anyone. I marvel sometimes at how lucky I am to have had so many wonderful people like Arturo and Stacy cross my path in this life.
