“They’re called deviled eggs because the devil makes you want to eat twenty-five of them.” ~ Unknown
Yesterday, I said I couldn’t believe I didn’t get a photo of Pam with Jim Bob, but on my phone today, I found this selfie with Pam and Jen. Now, here’s an interesting tidbit. For those of you with a Morgan County relative card, you’ll want to play along. Me, Pam, and Jen are all descendants of Benjamin and Susannah Moonglow Hurst Hamilton. He was a Revolutionary Way veteran who received a land warrant in Eastern Kentucky for his service. He married Moonglow in 1792, and they settled in Moon, Kentucky, soon after. And, yes, Moon is named after Moonglow, and yes, she was Cherokee from The Smokey Mountain area. The Hamiltons had at least ten children that I know of; three boys and seven girls. Shero and I are descended from their son, David. David begat Benjamin begat Joseph Ray begat John Ed begat Hannah (Hamilton Adams) begat Shero begat me. That makes me an eighth-generation Morgan Countian. I believe Pam and Jen are descended from one of Benjamin and Moonglow’s other children. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t David. Pam’s sister Carolyn named one of her thoroughbred racehorses after Mamaw Moonglow. She’s a winner. Benjamin and Moonglow were famous before the horse, and no wonder. I’d swear a third of Morgan County is descended from this couple. I love most the connection Pam, Jen, and I share with the couple and this part of the world. It’s a really special feeling knowing so much about who you come from. So many people I know can’t go back more than a couple of generations, my African American friends especially. If you know your heritage, consider yourself lucky. And if you’ve got groovy ancestors like me, Pam, and Jen, come to the next family reunion.
