“Be the person that, no matter where you go or who you’re with, you add value to the lives of those around you.” ~ Unknown
The birthday-ness continued over the weekend and into today. Jane Somers never forgets my birthday, no matter how little we see or talk to one another, and she sends the funniest gifts, like these adorable scratch cards. They look like post-it-sized plain black cards, but the small wooden sticks accompanying the card pack tell a different story. I wrote a card for Jane (left) and drew a fat cat with a bad tail. Fun! I look forward to writing more of these cards. This afternoon, I arrived home to find a package on my porch. My dear, dear, dear old friend Alisa Marshall Burnett sent this fabulous tumbler for my 60th birthday. I’ve known Alisa almost as long as I’ve been alive. I think we met in Headstart, but if not there, then definitely the first grade. That’s how long we’ve been friends; I don’t remember meeting her. She has just always been my friend. We’re so different, and we were always different. I was rambunctious. She was sweet. I was fidgety. She was calm. I was a troublemaker. She was the teacher’s pet. Fast forward 60 years, and despite our differences, we still hold each other in the highest regard. My life would be radically different if she had not been the calm to my storm. I wouldn’t take anything for our friendship. Not then, and not now. And hey, to top off my day, I got two birthday cards, one of which had some cashola. Am I a lucky gal or what?
