Mayor Morgan

The Pope Villa event brought out the stars, including Mayor Linda Gorton, above with BGT deTours committee member and new mom to twin girls Remi and Roo, Morgan Clark. Morgan has been absent from deTours as long as I have, but for a very different reason, being a new mom and all. She and her husband, Bennett, have a toddler at home, too, so her hands are full, but Wednesday saw the heavens align so we could all be together to celebrate the BGT and Pope Villa. After I re-snapped the picture of Morgan with the Mayor (remember the camera did not cooperate the first time), I walked into Pope Villa to find Josh doing his thing as a news reporter for WUKY. He was interviewing Dr. Jonathan Coleman, the executive director of the BGT. I’ve known Josh for 20 years or more now. He helped Stacy and me get WUKY’s first podcast off the ground. It was called tonic: arts and music magazine. It was an early foray into internet-only content, and before there were countless podcast streaming services. We interviewed artists and authors, musicians and photographers, book reviews, and anything else we thought artsy. Melanie Johnson composed the theme song that opened every segment. We did the show for four years, from 2006 to 2010. For me, it helped take the edge off Library School, which, as I’ve said, I loathed. Josh, Stacy, and tonic helped me cope. It’s always a joy to see and hug Josh because I don’t get to do it as often as I used to. But maybe I’ll start stalking him, and it seems he stalks the mayor, so perhaps I’ll get that picture of the two of them that I screwed up on Wednesday, too (another victim of the camera snafu). At least I was able to recreate Morgan and the Mayor. God bless ’em for indulging me.

  1. I am very easy to stalk, by the way. Station, home, Kentucky Theatre, and that’s about it. Plus all the mayor pressers, as you mentioned. #PARTYMAN
