“My favorite childhood memory is having energy.” ~ Unknown

What am I reading this summer, you ask? This is the shelf from which I am pulling my summer reads. I’ve already read a few, or large parts of a few such as Bluegrass Sons (shout out to BFF Erin Chandler), Human Geography, an undergraduate textbook but highly validating for much of my thesis and intriguing as additional scholarly endeavors – don’t worry, not happening any time soon – Tornado, quoted in the thesis, and belonging by bell hooks, also used in the thesis. If you’re not familiar with bell hooks, you’re missing out. She has totally nailed the white patriarchy, but just as importantly, she understands deeply the Kentucky identity. Right now, I’m reading The Goldfinch, a book that has appeared in my sphere time and again, and when that happens, I read it. I have yet to be disappointed. Beyond Religion is a book that I first listened to by accident, as it happens. Crystal had meant to gift me Miranda Hart’s book, but Audible instead chose the Dalai Lama’s “Beyond Religion” for me. I was writing the thesis and needed a break when I listened, and much of what he had to say was relevant to the thesis in terms of hope and resilience, so much so that I used a quote from him in the document. God and the Universe are always looking out for me in many ways. Having Hero to oversee my reading list doesn’t hurt either.
