“Do it now
before the spark grows cold
later becomes never
and regret grows old.”
~ Scott Stillman
My day started with Lord Basil catching a bunny. Fortunately, I saw him do it. I ran out the door, told him to drop it (twice), and he did. Good boy, though definitely not how I wanted the day to start. The rabbit was fine, but to make it up to the bunnies for clipping the forsythia too closely, giving the dogs easy entry, I did more yard work, as you can see. I acquired a chainsaw yesterday and put it to use this afternoon, cutting down two dead peach trees. Planted in 2009, the grandfather peach trees, Orville and Thornton, did not survive. They showed signs of dying in 2023, it was worse in 2024, and they are 110% dead in 2025. They never produced fruit that matured because the squirrels preferred them when they were young and unripe. Thieves! I have one remaining peach tree that’s doing quite well. It’s a White Oak peach that Pam Oldfield Meade gave me in a Dixie Cup. We’ll see if the squirrels let me have any of its fruit. Anyway, with the dead peach tree wood, I’ve created an impenetrable dam, like a beaver, blocking the forsythia and giving the bunnies safety once again. I hope they forgive me. The blood was not the result of a chainsaw accident, you’ll be pleased to learn, and I still have all my digits. How was your Fourth of July?
