“Whether this is the first day of the Apocalypse or the first day of the Golden Age, the work remains the same… love each other and ease as much suffering as possible.” ~ Attributed to Ram Dass
Dear Aunt Mabel, now the oldest living Terry, was in town this week. Charleen and Tony threw a 4th of July-themed party in her honor, and most of the Central and Eastern Kentucky clan were there to celebrate her. Mabel is a twin to Linda, who passed in 1995. That’s right: my grandmother Terry had two sets of twins: Mabel and Linda, and Harold and Darrell. Dad remembered their birth so well that he talked about it a lot, reflecting on how he helped his mother care for the girls and teaching them how to wash dishes when they were still too little to reach the sink (he put them on chairs). Those are the kinds of things that bond people for life.
Mabel returns to her beloved Florida tomorrow, and at over 80 years old, we have to seize the day as often as opportunity allows, and seize the day we did, despite the 95-degree temp. We ate. We looked at old pictures. We hugged and laughed and sweated and laughed some more. And what would any Terry gathering be without Missy the photo bomber? I depend on her! I’m grateful for my family.
