“Bring me all of your dreams,
You dreamers.
Bring me all of your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too rough fingers
Of the world.”
~ Langston Hughes
I’ve met many thoughtful people in my life, but I think Jennifer Reynolds might put them all to shame. She was incredibly encouraging as I trudged through my thesis, having gone through the gauntlet herself. However, her compassion showed itself long before that. Having lost her mother some years before Hero’s passing, her random postcards to me during his slow decline were sometimes the best things about my day. Uncannily, they brought a message I needed to hear at just the right time. She understood my struggle all too well, having spent much time supporting her mom and dad when they traveled the same arduous road. But she’s not just compassionate to the people she knows. She’s equally compassionate to her fellow man, whether she knows them or not, which, for my money, is the mark of a deeply good person. She stands up for what she believes is right, and she does it with unparalleled grace. I value her friendship tremendously, and I’m grateful for it every day.
