new look

It has taken Stacy 18 years to do away with her taxus bushes and start afresh. It’s not a great picture, but it’s a big, beautiful change to me. I inherited her hydrangea, which never did well because of the full sun of her front yard. This evening, I planted them in Shero’s front yard. Let me tell you, those bushes were huge (they came with the house, so, they, too, were at least 18 years old), and it was hot. I mean HOT. On days like this, when there’s a heat advisory, I do not miss working in landscaping or on the horse farm. Me and summer heat have not been great friends since about age 45. Still, I got those puppies in the ground and watered them in real good, since we hadn’t had rain on this street in the past seven days. Within an hour, the sky opened up with a thunderstorm. If I had known the official rain dance included sacrificing a hydrangea, I would have gone down to Stacy’s and dug them up myself weeks ago.
