“You cannot control how people think about you, so it is pointless to waste energy trying. Just live your life and be happy.” ~ Unknown
Judi Jennings made it to the memorial near the end. She’d been in the Big Apple doing big Judi things as she does. There were two photos I really wanted from the weekend; Nyoka with her brothers was the first one, and the other was all the wonderful people I know from Appalshop, the ones I call the Solid Gold Dancers. I talked about them in my introduction to the piece I put together for Gurney’s memorial weekend (You can watch the whole first night or go to 01:04:43 for my oral history portion). Pam and Judi are two of the Solid Gold Dancers. I learned on Sunday that the Appalshop Christmas parties we played where the Solid Gold Dancers appeared weren’t called Christmas parties but Christmas balls. They threatened to take away my Hillbilly card for getting the name wrong; a fate worse than death! I kept my card, but I didn’t get either photo I wanted. There was much conversation, much picture taking, much hugging, and little time to wrangle cats. I’m still alright with it, though. I got everyone one way or another, with hugs galore.
