“All mistakes teach us something, so there are, in reality, no mistakes.” ~ Nikki Giovanni
This young man came to see me today. I saw him over the weekend, too. He helped give Gurney the best send-off imaginable. This is my friend Robert Gipe, one of the funniest men alive, and a fantastic writer and artist. I met him way, way back in the early 1990s when he was just a pup doing marketing at Appalshop. He was wonderful then, but he’s grown into an incredible human being that I’m proud to know. He’s doing important work in Eastern Kentucky and throughout the Appalachian Region, and he’s doing critical work bringing Gurney’s legacy to print. I especially love it that he calls me “buddy” every time he sees me. Buddies do good work together.
