“Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming.” ~ David Bowie
Okay, now it’s my birthday, and I had a fantastic day! Following Crystal Heis’ birthday rule, I took the day off. I slept in as long as the doggos would let me, which isn’t that long, but I didn’t have an alarm disturb me, and that’s a win. While the doggos went out for their business, I opened my card from Jon and Jen. They sent my birthday twin David Bowie’s Let’s Dance. Little did they know it is my favorite Bowie track because it features my all-time favorite guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan. As a bonus, it was the extended club track, so it was extra long. I danced around the house like no one was watching. The dogs, however, were watching, and they did so with extreme judgment. I didn’t care. I kept dancing. After I downed a cuppa, I gathered Stacy and off we went to Winchell’s for their fabulous breakfast. That’s when she presented the hilarious coffee mug. That was followed by a shopping trip to Kroger for ingredients needed for the later-day recipe of Lasagna Soup, courtesy of Crystal (what would I do without her?). I made a late lunch for Shero, who has been self-quarantined until today with a stomach virus. It was good to finally see her and spend some time talking. After that, I spent a couple of hours playing my drums, working on a track for my friend Nevil in jolly ‘ol England. Technology sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, but it has made some things possible, like playing with friends across the pond. In between all this, it was as if the universe knew my soul was aching to play because so many of my player friends reached out, some with old tracks we’d done 15 years ago, another with a new track off her upcoming release, and another with plans for new music with me. Hearing from all of them was just what the doctor ordered. I played so much this afternoon, I was sweating like I’d been playing in some dive bar, and it felt great. So, now, it’s near bedtime. My house smells incredible from the soup recipe I’ve made for tomorrow’s dinner. I’ve tried to reply to all my birthday wishes on Facebook and text (I’ve probably missed a few somewhere). I’ve listened and danced and played music from the time I got up until I finally stopped to cook at 9 pm. Shero is getting better, Stacy made me laugh, the dogs stopped judging me – I don’t know how much better my day could have been. I am eternally grateful for 61 years on this rotating blue orb hurtling through space.
