how it started

This day didn’t go exactly to plan. The Mean Girls, as Jeff likes to call us (Jen, Judy, and me), met at Ramsey’s for brunch to catch up and exchange Christmas gifts. As soon as the waitress asked if we’d like an appetizer or a mimosa, Jen and I wooed out loud and answered yes to the mimosas. I hadn’t had one in years, so it was a treat for sure. Judy and I got birthday pie, too – bonus! (Judy’s birthday was the 9th) It was a wonderful visit because we all miss Jen so much now that she has ascended to a better life away from here. The worst part is that this is the only photo I got, even though I intended to get a good group photo of the four of us. Alas, lunch with the gang was about when the expected portion of the day ended. From there, things took a turn. Long story short, Shero contracted a stomach bug at church last Sunday, and though she rallied after Thursday, that came to a screeching halt today. We were able to get into UK’s Urgent Treatment Center across the street, but testing negative for both flu strains, Covid, and UTI, with a plummeting oxygen level, they sent her by ambulance to UK’s ER where more tests could be conducted. We, and the doctors, thought she had pneumonia again, but tests revealed it was a bronchiectasis flare-up with a side of an enlarged spleen and enlarged multiple lymph nodes. A bag of fluid and a heavy-hitting breathing treatment got her home at midnight, but a follow-up to address the rather unusual surprises will come later this week. She is in good spirits and feeling better than she had earlier today. A little prayer for our Shero would be a well-placed and appreciated prayer.
