“There is so much joy to be gained from so little. All you need to do is notice.” ~ Unknown
Doug Boyd asked me to talk to his oral history class about two of my oral history projects, especially the one from which I drew conclusions in my thesis, Place, Identity, and Natural Disasters. While I was waiting for him, I ran into my thesis chair and good friend Doug Appler. He’d been hanging onto a book for me since last spring. It turned out that I was awarded this book for the best thesis project. I was bowled over. I thought my committee hated it. I didn’t tell him that, but I was shocked because I really did think they hated it. I’ve been battling a nasty sinus infection today, but the gift in recognition of my hard work and talking to Doug’s students made me feel a little better. I’m honored and so very grateful.
