“The best way out is always through.” ~ Robert Frost

next chapter

At midnight, phased retirement begins. Today felt weird. Even though I am not retired, it felt like an ending of sorts, but I’m very glad I chose phased retirement. It will give me the chance to adjust my time to things that are important to me, rather than to things that are important to my job. In that spirit, I decided to start as soon as I got home by pulling the TV out to the porch and moving Shero’s many wind chimes to join mine. As we had done nearly every evening for the last six years, I turned on the evening news for the first time since she passed. That’s when I first heard the term “Thurby,” as in the Thursday before Derby. Can’t say it’s a hit with me, but apparently, some folks like it. When I opened Facebook later, I saw it there, too. Fine. I’m just gonna hang out with my wind chimes and think about using my new energy for more good, fun things like wind chimes and outdoor TV. Ya’ll come join me. I’ll pull out the grill and cook us something.
