“Please don’t forget that parts of your life now were once only part of your dreams.” ~ Blue Iris
How was my first day of semi-retirement, you ask? It started with a presentation and meeting with the Vice President of Research, followed by a couple of hours of necessary emails. I know that sounds bad, but the morning with the VP was the last responsibility I had as chair of a university committee that was scheduled before I decided to make a change, and it was actually a good way to continue the transition into a new life because, when the morning was over, I gathered Stacy and off for delicious cheeseburgers we went and then to one of my favorite shops, Lexteeton, for birthday gifts. If you’re old enough to remember Spencer’s Gifts in nearly every mall in America, Lexteeton reminds me a lot of Spencer’s without the blacklight posters. That’s where we met Graham (I think that is his name). He is a super-chill twelve-year-old who greets Lexteeton shoppers on occasion. Stacy was one such occasion. He followed her through the store while I shopped. Throughout the day, I received texts and emails from friends and coworkers congratulating me and wishing me health and enjoyment in this new chapter. So, yeah, I think gifts for friends and cheeseburgers and doggo friends and happy messages are a pretty good way to start semi-retirement. I felt the love. Happy May Day and Beltane.
