I know this doesn’t look like much, and you can’t even really see what’s important, but inside the chicken wire cage is a peach tree. Last year, Robin gave me four porch peach trees that she had grown from seeds of her peach tree. Imagine my disappointment when, less than 48 hours after planting, all four trees had been eaten to the ground. I saw one had been nibbled after the first night, and Robin told me to get chicken wire. I didn’t know I had to do it right that second or the rabbits would make a meal of them otherwise. The joke was on me. Those cute little cottontails made a meal and then some. I thought all was lost until about four weeks ago, when I saw one tree making a comeback, then two, then three. This morning, to my utter surprise, the fourth little tree was sprouting again even after being eaten to the ground. I got some chicken wire post haste. My tenacious little peach trees: I must do right by them from now on.
