I had some interesting conversations today, and I received many compliments, but perhaps none better than my neighbor who many know affectionately from Facebook as “Chainsaw Charlie.” We mowed our yards at the same time, then struck up a conversation between the fence. That’s when he told me he sometimes stops to take pictures of my front yard because it’s so beautiful. His mother’s favorite flower was a purple iris. I was touched. They’re nearly all faded now with recent rains, but other flowers are coming on. The azaleas at the top were given to me last fall by the neighbors on the other side of me. I thought they were dead. Clearly, I was wrong. The side of the house with the driveway is lined with Dianthus. It’s pretty stunning in the evening. The gorgeous yellow iris given to me by my neighbor at the end of the street popped open today like a sunrise. Looks like putting myself through school doing landscaping wasn’t a bad move. It makes me really happy to know my yard brings Chainsaw Charlie good memories.
