getting the band back together
Way, way back in December 2009, Pete Poggione, Dan Kibler, and I got together one weekend to play some music here in Lexington. Pete lives in Michigan, and Dan lives in Pennsylvania. Getting together was not that easy. Well, in 2026, it’s a lot easier than it was in 2009, and guess what? We’re playing, and not just on Zoom. We’ve already cut basic tracks for our first song –a little ditty by Dan called Show A Little Kindness (you thought I was going to say “little ditty ’bout Jack and Diane,” didn’t you?)– and we’re not stopping there. We’re getting some other tech sorted out so we can actually jam while staying in our respective states, and from there, continue cutting tunes. Both Pete and Dan write, so we’re not hurting for original material, which is my all-time favorite to play. Now, you’re asking, “How does she know these guys?” I’ve known them both for a very long time. Dan and I met at SXSW in Austin, Texas, in maybe 1988 or 89 (photo below, 1990), and I met Pete in the mid-1990s when he was living in Louisville. We had a fun little R&B band for a few years called La Vida Loca (photo below, 1995). I don’t remember exactly how the three of us decided to get together to play some music in 2009, but that was the only time we met up in person. We’ve continued to keep in touch over the last 16.5 years, but music was never part of it again. When Shero was in the hospital back in January, Pete and Dan must have known I was going through a hard time because they (virtually) showed up out of the blue, and next thing I knew, Dan sent rough tracks. Tonight was our first chat since I cut the drums and Pete threw down some rough guitar ideas. We left with action items and regular meeting times going forward. So, here we go. After nearly 17 years, Red Couch Conspiracy lives. This is gonna be fun!
