“Do more of what makes you happy.” ~ Unknown

April

These delicate violets pepper my backyard, and every year in April, they appear like a purple and white blanket on the grass. They remind me of the first year I owned my house, the first April I lived here. It was after dark, a warm, starry night. I’d been out with Stacy, Crystal, and another co-worker to see The Bats play at Natasha’s, a local restaurant and music venue. I came home feeling so proud and pleased to be a homeowner that I lay down in the middle of these small flowers and stared into the night sky for an hour. The smell was unforgettable. The sensation was exhilarating. I never imagined I’d live here as long as I have. It’s been 17 years now, and I ain’t going nowhere anytime soon, except to the backyard to lay down in the violets and look at the stars.
