“What a privilege it is to be able to wake up and try again.” ~ Unknown

brave old girl

I stopped over at King Library on Friday to lend a hand with building boxes and giving the now mostly empty library the HRB treatment, meaning Crystal and I ran around documenting the space. I shudder to think what they’re going to do to the old girl. I’ve had my issues with the building, don’t get me wrong, but I hope they leave her most visually striking elements intact and not glass her up like every other renovation they’ve done lately. New buildings are all glass, and old buildings get glass. With extreme weather on the increase, glass does not inspire confidence to me. In any case, I’m going to actually miss the old building and the way it enabled everyone in special collections to see each other at some point in the week, and have those impromptu conversations that are worth more than all the meetings you can schedule. I’m not going to miss the roaches and dusty air, so there’s that. Mostly, though, I’m just so grateful for the time I got to spend there and all the good work that’s been done within her walls.
