Darrell is one of my twin uncles. He was in high school when I was a little girl, and he would often spend the weekends with us. When he went away to college, he would still come spend the weekends with us. I tried to stay all night with my friends, but once the sun went down, I would cry to go home. I don’t know why I was afraid of the dark. It was usually poor Darrell who would come get me, soothe me, and take me home. He was my hero. He made me laugh all the time, and he had the joy of a child. He still does. Darrell had a heart problem when he was a boy. By the time he reached 17 he was nearly done for. Mom and dad brought him to Lexington and worked a little magic that enabled him to receive the open heart surgery needed to save his life. He went on to complete his college degree, marry, and have a daughter of his own; my cousin Lisa. We’re nothing alike, but I call her Kopana 2.0 since I gave Darrell plenty of practice to have a daughter. I’m not afraid of the dark anymore, but Darrell is still my hero.

This is absolutely precious. It thrilled Darrell to death. We love the picture. Thanks for all the kind words. He loves you dearly and remembers those good times too.

I remember so clearly his coming to get me at Alisa Marshall’s house one evening. He was kind even though he was laughing. I don’t blame him. I would have laughed, too. LOL I’m sure I was a mess.

How seeet, he truly is full of joy even though he doesn’t feel as we might think. He knows his bible and lives it everyday, by his actions, speech and kindness. Love ❤️
